12 - SA RESOLZA

Pattada, a mountain village of about 3000 inhabitants among the highest in Sardinia (828 m above sea level), is situated in the heart of Monte Acuto and in the eastern part of Logudoro.
The village dominates a strictly forest territory, rich in rare fauna and strong naturalistic features. The village overlooks Mount Lerno (1094 m asl), a territory of almost 3000 hectares, overlooking the lake Lerno, a water resource for many municipalities and for the agriculture of the "Piana di Chilivani".
The history of the village dates back to ancient times, as evidenced by the various archaeological complexes found, the same history becomes the glory of the great cultural tradition that has distinguished the local territory, it is no coincidence that Pattada is considered the "cradle of Sardinian poetry" thanks to poets likes Father Luca Cubeddu, Pedru Pisurzi (Bantine) or Giovanni Maria Asara (aka Limbudu).
When you quote Pattada, there is a direct and univocal thought to the knife, called in Sardinian "Sa Leppa", "Sa Resolza" or more commonly "Sa Pattadesa". Pattada is known all over the world for its characteristic object, whose function originally, but in many cases still today, was linked to local activities, mainly agro-pastoral; in this regard the traditional knife was considered the natural extension of the worker's hand.
Today The Resolza has evolved its concept and consequently the market, the knife is in fact understood less and less as a tool and more and more as a art work, a cultural sign of the territory and a particularly sought after element for collectors, so even the figure of the cutler has evolved to be associated no longer to the traditional blacksmith but to craftsman/artist. The long processing of these precious objects obviously limits their production to a few examples, each one of them represents a unicum as they are never produced identical copies of the same knife. The knife market is based on a direct relationship with the craftsman, which explains the working phases, styles, types of material and obviously the traditions and stories related to the object. This direct relationship with the craftsman makes it possible to secure an original product, distinguishing itself and protecting itself from the countless attempts at reproduction and fakes that circulate outside the local context.
Pattada, in addition to the attractions of the town, boasts a longstanding tradition linked to the production of cheese and nougat.
Another artistic element that has taken hold in local manufacturing, although relatively recently, is the violin. Therefore, thanks to the doctrine of the great school of Cremona, another local artistic figure, the violin maker, was born and established.

Pattada boasts a whole series of attractions among which:
- Nuraghe Lerron;
- San Gavino Hill;
- Monte Lerno;
- La Pineta.
