13 - S'INCANTU
The Nurra is a territorial polygon of about 550 square kilometers of north-western Sardinia and boasts, in addition to the presence of spectacular coastline and particularly fertile lands, a dense archaeological presence. There are more than 2,100 Domus de Janas (Fairy Houses), about 60% of all those present in Sardinia, some of which are difficult to access and others particularly valued.
The most characteristic Domus of the Nurra is located in the municipality of Puttifigari, and precisely in Monte Siseri. Better known as "Domus de Janas S'incantu" it represents a Neolithic hut perfectly reproduced in shapes and colours in the tufa rock. The hypogeic tomb dates back to the final Neolithic period (3,200 - 2,800 BC) and was excavated by the archaeologist Giovanni Maria Demartis in 1989.
Part of the complex of the necropolis of Monte Siseri, S'incantu presents a bas-relief detail that has no equal in Sardinia. In fact, the false beams, the engravings on the columns and walls, or the corneous shapes that probably represent devotion to the bull god, are of great value. The latter could lead scholars to more complex stylised figures such as boats. The tomb is composed of a small pavilion through which one accesses the antechamber (with two decorated false doors at the sides) and through an additional passage one accesses the central cell, the latter composed of two pillars, a central hearth, a false door and two further passages leading to other secondary cells. The tomb preserves an almost intact and unique architecture of colours.
Of particular interest in the Nurra are:
- Su Crocifissu Mannu (Porto Torres);
- Monte D'Sccoddi (Sassari);
- Anghelu Ruju (Alghero);
- Santu Pedru (Alghero);
- Mesu 'e Montes (Ossi);
- Sa Pedra Longa (Uri);
- Santa Cadrina (Uri);
