15 - REDENTORE
Nuoro, city of about 35,000 inhabitants, is the seventh highest provincial capital of Italy, with its 550 meters above sea level.
The first traces of anthropization of the Nuoro territory date back to the Nuragic and pre-Nuragic ages, as demonstrated by the existence of several nuraghes, domus de janas and sacred wells.
Among the most important are the Nuraghe of Noddule, for its construction complexity and the presence of a lustral basin and a sacred well, and that of Tanca Manna, located in a pre-Nuragic village of 1700-1600 BC consisting of about 200 huts and extended for over 3 hectares.
In the twentieth century, Nuoro was home to writers, intellectuals and artists including the writers Sebastiano and Salvatore Satta, the sculptor Francesco Ciusa and Grazia Deledda, Nobel prize winner for literature in 1926.
One of the identity icons of the city is the statue of Christ the Redeemer, located on a summit of Mount Ortobene at an altitude of 925 meters above sea level.
In 1901 Pope Leo XIII invited to build monuments dedicated to Christ the Redeemer in all regions of Italy. The construction was entrusted to the sculptor Vincenzo Jerace.
The bronze statue is 4 meters high and weighs about 2 tons. Cast in Naples, it was transported to Sardinia by sea, divided into various parts and assembled in the place where it is located.
The festival, which takes place on August 29th, is dedicated to Christ the Redeemer. It features a parade of traditional costumes from all the villages of Sardinia, with songs and dances.
Nuoro boasts a whole series of attractions including:
Grazia Deledda Museum;
Museum of Sardinian folk life and traditions;

Art Museum of the province of Nuoro (MAN);
Ciusa Museum;
Church of madonna delle Grazie;
