ORGOSOLO

Orgosolo‌‌ ‌is a municipality in the Barbagia of Nuoro of about 4,000 inhabitants.

An area inhabited continuously since the Neolithic period, it offers numerous archaeological testimonies of the past, including about sixty Domus de janas, seventeen Menhir, a Dolmen and the necropolis of Oreharva, consisting of fifteen tombs.

There are also numerous finds from the Nuragic Age. About thirty nuraghes are scattered in the Orgosolo territory, of which only a few are well preserved.

Most of the remains of this period are located in the area of the Pradu plateau; fifteen nuraghes, including Duvilinò and the Mereu nuraghe, as well as eight tombs of giants, a sacred spring and about ten settlements.

The territory of Orgosolo is particularly fascinating for trekking and climbing enthusiasts. The Orgosolo Supramonte, a vast 3,500 hectares, is a mountainous plateau rich in doline caves and gorges, characterized by the white colour of the limestone rocks and the green undergrowth.

Among the most suggestive natural attractions are the Su Suercone sinkhole, with its 200 meters deep and 400 meters wide abyss and the Gorroppu Canyon, which with its 22 kilometers of walls up to 450 meters high is one of the deepest in Europe. In the 20th century Orgosolo became famous for the phenomenon of banditry. The director Vittorio De Seta made the film Banditi a Orgosolo in 1961.

Today Orgosolo is an open-air museum in which thousands of tourists admire the murals scattered throughout the old town every year. There are more than 150 works by local and international artists. In the murals, made with the most diverse styles, you can see
